Good Morning Coaches and Junior contacts
With limited tournament opportunities for our juniors this season SCJB have organised two separate County and Non-County junior competitions to run simultaneously over two weekends. An U11/U13 event will be held on Sunday 15th May 2022 with the U15/U17 event held a week later on Sunday 22nd May 2022). These are open to all eligible players in Sussex, and I would be grateful if you could forward the attached entry forms to any of your juniors who may wish to enter.
PLEASE NOTE – Juniors who have competed or trained as a member of any Sussex County squad anytime in 2021-22 can only compete in the County event. All other eligible players can choose to compete in either County or Non-County events (but not both – due to them being run simultaneously). Please see full “Conditions of Entry” on the enclosed entry forms
Please be aware of the closing date as shown for both competitions over the two weekends, and if entries are high then it will be administered on a first serve basis. Entry forms can be completed electronically or written and sent by email or post to the event organiser
If you have any questions then please contact me, or if you wish to be removed from my mailing list please let me know
Thank you
Neil

Badminton England Membership / Affiliation
Please see the message below from our Chair, Penny Radford:
Hi Mid Sussex Clubs,
Hopefully you have all seen the email from Badminton England, informing you to check your membership status and to also pay your club affiliation fee?
I am sending this message as a reminder that you should check that all your members have valid BE Membership and that your Club Affiliation has been paid, as your insurance will be invalid from today if not. So especially important for those who have matches this evening!
It is a requirement for all the clubs playing in the Mid Sussex League to have the above. Please forward your BE Affiliation email, which confirms payment, to Zoe.
Kind regards
Penny Radford

Closure of Virgin Active
Please see the message below from Becky Simpson which will affect all matches due to be played at teh above venue:
Hi All,
As you probably know Virgin Active is sadly closing on the 21st November.
We are aiming to keep going as a badminton club. We have had to pull out of the Brighton league but are very pleased to say that we are going to continue with our two teams in the Mid-Sussex league, these being ladies and mixed div 2. Our fixtures and timings will remain the same but we will play all our home matches at Baca. A big thank you to Nicky from Bats who has kindly offered for us to share her courts when we have matches.
First Mid Sussex Match of 2021/22 Season
On Tuesday 28th September 2021, the first Mid Sussex League match of the season was played at Portslade Leisure Centre and it was wonderful to see competitive badminton back in action. Brighton Valiants hosted the first Mid Sussex Mens Combi Division 1 match against a young and energetic team from the Triangle Tornados. I’ve had the pleasure of playing with all the players in both teams and I knew the stage was set for a thoroughly enjoyable match. The first blood went to the Tornados, with their first pair beating the Valiants first pair 2-1. Next came a victory for the Valiants, with the second pair beating the Tornados’ second pair by 2-0. At 1-1 it was all to play for with 4 more games to come and plenty more action in store. The scores were pretty close throughout the following games, however the Valiants found their rhythm and fought hard to eventually secure themselves a well deserved 5-1 victory. It was a great evening and it left us in no doubt that returning to competitive badminton is something that has been sorely missed and is always a very exciting pastime.
Congratulations must go to Wendy Adams, Brian Hobbs and the Triangle Tornados squad for their efforts and for securing the future of their club, an important resource for high quality Sussex Junior Badminton! If you’re a junior looking to excel you can find their contact info on their club page here.
Congratulations Brighton Valiants and here are a few images from the match.
